On February 4th, 2026, Hanoi National University of Education hosted an information session regarding scholarship opportunities at the University of Huddersfield and a thematic workshop on Teaching English as a Second Language. The event drew significant interest from a large number of students.

The event marks a milestone in the decade-long strategic partnership between HNUE and the University of Huddersfield. The gathering not only provided the latest updates on study and research opportunities in the United Kingdom but also opened numerous academic and career prospects for HNUE students.

Prior to the main session, Prof.Dr. Wayne Bailey – Head of the School of Education and Professional Development at the University of Huddersfield, held a brief meeting with Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Duc Son – President of HNUE. During the meeting, both leaders reviewed the successful 10-year cooperation journey and reached a consensus on expanding in-depth collaborative activities. The two sides agreed to strengthen student exchanges, boost scientific research cooperation, develop international training programs, and increase scholarship opportunities to enhance the international integration capacity of pedagogical students.

At the event, Prof.Dr. Wayne Bailey announced that the University of Huddersfield offers exclusive Master’s scholarships worth up to £7,000 specifically for HNUE students. Furthermore, outstanding graduates in the TESOL field have the opportunity to apply for full Doctoral scholarships.

Regarding the academic pathway, Master’s programs in the UK typically last one year, helping students optimize both time and costs. Additionally, third-year HNUE students in certain major-specific agreements can participate in the "Top-up" program, transferring to Huddersfield for their final year to earn an international Bachelor’s degree. Many alumni of this program have successfully become lecturers at prestigious UK universities such as Leeds and Manchester, or have continued their research in the UK, Australia, and the United States.

Prof.Dr. Wayne Bailey shares information with students.

Mr. James Leadbetter – Head of the University of Huddersfield's Southeast Asia Regional manager, shared that the university’s motto is “Inspiring Global Professionals.” In the context of Artificial Intelligence reshaping the labor market, Huddersfield focuses not only on knowledge but also on helping students define clear career goals. The university also committed to supporting international students with on-campus employment, visa procedures, and legal documentation through its international student support system.

Within the framework of the program, Prof. Bailey conducted a specialized workshop on Teaching English as a Second Language. He emphasized the key roles of lesson design and a learner-centered mindset, likening the teaching process to an "iceberg" where the preparation phase largely determines the quality of the delivery. He recommended the application of the PPP model (Presentation – Practice – Production) to enhance interaction and gradually replace traditional lecturing. He also stressed setting clear learning objectives, diversifying teaching resources, and utilizing AI effectively and ethically.

The program concluded with a commemorative photo session featuring representatives from the University of Huddersfield, HNUE leadership, and students, marking another meaningful milestone in the sustainable educational partnership between the two universities.
