1. History
The Faculty of National Defense Education was established in pursuant to Decisioníion no. 2022/QĐ dated December 29th, 1982 by the Minister of Education. Its precursor was the Military Division and Team of Military Teachers. The Military Division with 05 members headed by Mr. Nguyen Chi Linh, Secretary of the Communist Party Committee, Mr. Bui Xuan Tuc as Vice Head has quickly put local military affairs in order by organizing and training self-defense forces, conducting recruitment, management and training of reserve forces ... laying the foundations for military operations of the University.
The Military Teachers' Team consists of 11 members, led by Mr. Dinh Van Bat and was in charge of the general military training mission for students of the whole university.
The Military Faculty consisted of 36 members, including 22 former army officers, led by Colonel Trinh Ngu, who had fought in the battlefields of the South and the Northern Border with experience in commanding, managing and teaching at Army School 1 (Tran Quoc Tuan University).
- From 1989 to 1992
Due to the requirements and staff demand of the Army, some members have transferred to other duties of the school. There were only 15 members in this period, led by Lieutenant Colonel Dao Xuan Le.
- From 1993 to 2002
In implementation of the Decision No. 2732/QĐ dated March 26th, 1992 of the Minister of Education, the Military Faculty was assigned the task of training teachers to teach in high school education. The Faculty was renamed the Faculty of National Defense Education.
- From 2003 till now
In the 2003-2004 school year, the Faculty of Physical Education in conjunction with the Faculty of Political Theory and Citizenship Education organized a joint training program for bachelors of Physical Education - National Defense Education and Political Education - National Defense Education. From 2007-2008 school year, the Faculty of National Defense Education was assigned by the University Party Committee and the Board of Management of the Hanoi National University of Education to directly manage the students for the bachelor major of Political and National Defense Education. This is an important milestone marking the maturity of the Faculty of National Defense Education. After 10 years of training, the number and quality of faculty training has been constantly upgraded. Students of the faculty are equipped with fundamental and specialized knowledge together with pedagogical knowledge so that after graduation, they can become lecturers and teachers who have high qualifications in teaching and training national defense and security in the system of secondary schools, professional middle schools, colleges, universities and institutes throughout the country.
From the school year 2013-2014, the University has been assigned by the Hanoi Education and Training Department to manage the enrollment and training of regular and second diploma degree in the major of defense education and security. This is an important task of the faculty and the University, marking the maturity both in terms of training scale, both quantitatively and qualitatively for a 33-year training institution.
2. Functions and Duties
- Bachelor education and training for the major of Political and National Defense Education;
- Bachelor and second diploma degree education and training for the major of National Defense and Security Education;
- Educate and request the Principal to issue certificates of national defense and security education for students of the university and other cooperative training institutes;
- Conduct scientific research;
- Advise the Party Committee and the Board of Management on local military affairs;
- Train the school's self-defense force;
- Perform other tasks assigned by the University.
3. Staffing Organization
Currently there are 19 lecturers and officials, in which there are 13 military officers (ranking from captain to brigadier), 6 masters and 12 bachelors, 3 senior political theoretical graduates, with a projection to 2016, more than 70% of the lecturers will have attained master degrees and above. The military officers are educated by the Army School 1, Political Academy, Army Academy and the National Defense Academy with intensive experience in commanding and managing units ranging from the platoon level to the division level.
