Hanoi National University of Education is the first university in the national system of pedagogical schools to grant Science and Technology Awards to collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in the field of science and technology. Within the national academic community and higher education, HNUE’s strong reputation has been built upon outstanding teaching and research excellence predominantly measured by research output. In the identification of the core research areas, it has been essential to utilize various sources of data collection including HNUE strategy, nationwide and sectoral strategies, external stakeholder research needs, internal analysis of HNUE’s research landscape, and international research trends. During more than 70 years of construction and development, the University has fostered high-quality talents, carried out high-level research, and thus provided high-quality educational services contributing to policy-making for the education sector and promoting socio-economic development. The University was ranked among the top 10 Vietnamese universities in the QS Asian university rankings in 2021, in which the criteria for science and technology accounts for 55 % of the evaluation results. With its current position and role, the University’s new Vision 2030 strategic plan is to “have outstanding results in science and technology research, especially in education science and training of high-quality teachers at the national and international levels” by 2030. By realizing these goals, the University identifies its responsibility of leading the fundamental and comprehensive renovation of Vietnamese education, in line with the humanist values in the community.
