On March 30, 2024, the National Scientific Conference “Professor Hoang Tue - Language in Social Life” was solemnly held at the headquarters of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (No. 1 Lieu Giai, Ba Dinh, Hanoi) with the chairmanship and coordination of the Vietnam Linguistics Association, the Institute of Linguistics and Hanoi National University of Education.

The conference aims to commemorate and honor the contributions of Professor Hoang Tue, one of the linguistic masters who contributed to laying the foundation for building and developing the field of linguistics in Vietnam, alongside other famous names of the pioneering generation after the Revolution such as Nguyen Tai Can, Cao Xuan Hao, Hoang Phe, Hoang Van Hanh, Doan Thien Thuat, Nguyen Kim Than, Hoang Thi Chau, Do Huu Chau, Tran Chut ...

Attending the conference were leaders from the Institute of Linguistics, Vietnam Linguistics Association, Hanoi National University of Education, Language Magazine, Language and Life Magazine, and Vietnam Writers Association, ... and a large number of scientists from all over the country. Journey from soldier to educator and scientist

Hoang Tue is from Bao Ninh commune, Quang Ninh district, Quang Binh province (Dong Hoi town). He was born and raised in Hue City in a family with a tradition of higher education. His grandfather, Huynh Con, was a teacher of King Duy Tan (1899 - 1945), then Minister of Rites under this dynasty (1907 - 1916). His father is Mr. Hoang Chau Tich, who once held the position of Hong Lo Tu Khanh and worked at the Hue National History Institute.

As a patriotic intellectual, during his student days, Hoang Tue went to school in Hue and participated in patriotic movements since he was 15 years old. In 1941, he graduated from Hue National School. In 1942, he studied at the Indochina University of Law in Hanoi. After the success of the August Revolution of 1945, he immediately abandoned his studies to join the army. From 1945 - 1947, he was an officer in the 33rd Division of the South Central and Central Laos Front.

From 1947 to 1954, he taught high school at Nguyen Xuan On High School and Huynh Thuc Khang High School, Nghe An.

From 1954 to 1969, he worked at Hanoi National University of Education, was one of the first lecturers in the Faculty of Philology, and was the first head of the Department of Languages ​​- Faculty of Philology. During his time working at the Faculty of Philology, Professor made many contributions to developing the Faculty and Department of Linguistics, from grouping a team of teaching staff, exploring, outlining research directions, and preparing textbooks, linguistics learning materials... to faculty management, subject management, and direct teaching...

In 1969, he worked as a senior expert at the Central Department of Science and Education, and from 1977 to 1993, held the position of Director of the Institute of Linguistics. In this role, Prof. Hoang Tue has participated and contributed greatly to the investigation of sociolinguistics in ethnic minority areas, thereby contributing to the building and development of linguistics in Vietnam.

The Professor's research and works span many fields of linguistics, from Vietnamese grammar, and sociolinguistics, to language education. Prof. Hoang Tue left us a rather monumental career with more than a hundred articles and scientific works. Among the main works are: "Vietnamese Language Textbook", volume I (Social Sciences Publishing House, Hanoi, 1962), "Life in Language" (New Works Publishing House, Hanoi, 1984), "The Issue of Language Standards through the History of linguistics" (Education Publishing House, Hanoi, 1993), "Language and cultural social life" (Education Publishing House, 1996) ...

With great contributions to the country's language and education, he was awarded the “Government Award for Science and Technology” by the Government (personal work, 2005); Government Award for Science and Technology for the collective work "Vietnamese Dictionary" (editor by Hoang Phe) (2005). Prof. Hoang Tue also was awarded by the Party and Government: The Third-class Resistance Medal against the French, the First-class Resistance Medal against the US, and the Third-class Independence Medal…

Proceedings of the National Scientific Conference "Professor Hoang Tue - Language in Social Life"

In the solemn atmosphere of the Conference, the Proceedings of the National Scientific Conference "Professor Hoang Tue - Language in Social Life" published by Dan Tri Publishing House have attracted special attention from the academic community.
