Vibrant and Shining Talents of Hanoi National University of Education Students at the Final Round of the "HNUE English Challenge 2026" Competition

On the morning of April 22, 2026, at the 11/10 Hall, the Final Round of the HNUE English Challenge 2026 competition took place vibrantly with the shining performance and competition of 10 outstanding teams. Experiencing 3 dramatic and thrilling rounds, the team from the Faculty of English completely conquered the Board of Judges and the audience, excellently winning the First Prize. The competition is an activity towards the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the University, contributing to spreading the spirit of turning English into a second language within the school, as well as connecting for regional and international integration.

 

Attending the program were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Kieu Van Hoan - Vice President; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Lan Hung Son - Head of the Office of Political Work and Student Affairs; Dr. Dinh Minh Hang - Head of The President’s Office; Dr. Phung Thị Thanh Thuy - Secretary of the University Youth Union; Dr. Pham Thi Ngoc Quynh - Director of the Institute for International Education and Training; Dr. Luu Thi Kim Nhung - Director of the Center for Educational Development and Digital Technology (EDC); Dr. Tran Huong Quynh - Dean of the Faculty of English; and Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Thi Mai Oanh - Vice Principal of Nguyen Tat Thanh Lower & Upper School, along with teachers representing various units across the University. On the side of the program sponsor, there was the presence of Ms. Pham Thi Thu - Vice Director of Agribank – Cau Giay Branch.

 

The HNUE English Challenge 2026 competition was organized with the objective of promoting and improving the quality of learning and using English among pupils and students university-wide; creating a useful playground for pupils and students who love English and desire to cultivate and enhance their English capacity; and forming an English learning and using community in communication, learning, and research, towards meeting the requirements of English output standards in training.

Speaking at the opening of the Final Round, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Kieu Van Hoan, on behalf of the University Leadership, commended the efforts of the Organizing Committee in creating a highly meaningful playground for pupils and students across the University. This activity has contributed to motivating and encouraging the movement of learning English among pupils and students, creating conditions to meet, interact, exchange English learning experiences, and enhance mutual understanding among pupils and students university-wide. Through the competition, the University's pupils and students will find themselves liking to learn English, wanting to learn English, and helping each other learn English better through many creative forms anytime and anywhere.

The Prime Minister issued Decision No. 2371/QD-TTg dated October 27, 2025, approving the Project on "Introducing English as a Second Language into Schools for the 2025-2035 Period, with a Vision to 2045." The project aims to build an English language ecosystem in schools, creating the most favorable environment for English to be used widely, regularly, and effectively in teaching, learning, communication, management, and educational activities of the school, so that English becomes a second language in schools. The project emphasizes developing higher education into a pillar to lead the nation in the English ecosystem with deep and wide integration capacity, knowledge transfer, and innovation in English. Vice President Kieu Van Hoan congratulated the teams that were excellently selected for the Final Round. He also thanked the sponsoring unit, Agribank – Cau Giay Branch, for always accompanying the activities of the University.

In 2026, the Preliminary Round of the HNUE English Challenge competition attracted 24 participating teams with two parts. In Part 1, each team selected 1 out of 3 topics provided by the Organizing Committee to produce a video with a maximum duration of 3 minutes. In Part 2, each team drew a topic by lot, held a group discussion, and wrote an essay based on the topic directly in the examination room. After the Preliminary Round, the Organizing Committee selected 10 outstanding teams for the Final Round.

Right from the understanding section, the teams competed for each point through answering multiple-choice questions directly on the stage with content regarding Hanoi National University of Education, Education, Culture - Society, and English skills. Moving onto the talent section performed in the form of dramatization, the teams truly exploded and captivated the audience in the hall, taking them from one surprise to another alongside the continuous cheering of the supporters. After two dramatic competition parts, the Board of Judges selected 5 well-matched teams to enter the Oratory section with hot topics closely attached to students: How can future educators help students use AI responsibly in the classroom?; What can young people do to better prepare themselves for their future careers or further education?; How should exams be used alongside other forms of assessment to better evaluate students’ abilities?; What additional skills do education students/students of HNUE need to become more competitive in today’s job market?; How does social media affect students’ mental health?

Through the topical presentations of the groups and the Q&A sessions with the Board of Judges, it can be seen that the presentation capacity, thinking ability, argumentation, teamwork coordination in presentation, and the creativity of students are increasingly enhanced. Moreover, listening to the presentations on stage, the pupils and students in the school were inspired to like learning and want to learn English even more. After 3 competition parts of the Final Round of the HNUE English Challenge 2026, the specific results are as follows:

First Prize: Faculty of English.

Second Prize: Faculty of Biology, Faculty of Philology.

Third Prize: Faculty of Chemistry, Faculty of Psychology and Education.

Consolation Prizes: Faculty of Primary Education, Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, Faculty of Geography, Faculty of Early Childhood Education, and Nguyen Tat Thanh Lower & Upper School.

The Organizing Committee also awarded 3 sub-prizes, including:

Best Video Prize: Faculty of Primary Education.

Outstanding Essay Prize: Faculty of Chemistry.

Most Impressive Cheering Squad Prize: Faculty of Biology.
