- The Department of Russian language was established on 01/07/2004. It is an independent unit operating directly under the Rector's management.

4. Functions:
- Teaching Russian as a foreign language for Vietnamese non-philological students who study in different faculties of Hanoi National University of Education. Students learn Russian not as an academic major, but as a general education.
- Teaching Russian for postgraduate students who are learning to achieve master degree.
- Compiling textbooks, workbooks and course books focus not only on general knowledge of Russian language but also on mastering the peculiarities of the language which students can use in their future profession.
5. Scientific and research activities:
- Scientific workshops are held annually. The main area of scientific interest is the methodology - methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language for non-philologists beyond the language environment, methods of using visual aids in the learning process, etc. Through scientific activities, lecturers share professional experiences with the purpose of innovating teaching methods and improving the quality of training. The staff members publish their research findings in national and foreign magazines.
6. International cooperation:
- Cooperating with the Russian Center of Culture and Science in Hanoi as well as the Branch of Pushkin State Russian Language Institute in Hanoi.
- Annually, Department of Russian Language organizes the Russian Language Olympics for freshmen in cooperation with the Russian Center of Culture and Science in Hanoi.The top 10 best candidates of the contest get full scholarship to study in Russia.
- Our lecturers regularly attend international scientific and professional conferences organized by the Russian Center of Culture and Science in Hanoi and the Branch of Pushkin State Russian Language Institute in Hanoi.
