1. Process of establishment

Faculty of Special Education (FSE) was established under the Decision No. 3760/QD-BGDDT-TCCB on 19/06/2001 by the Minister of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET). The former facility of FSE is the Section of Special Education, Faculty of Educational Psychology, Hanoi National University of Education (HNUE).

2. Mission statement, vision, functions and tasks

2.1. Mission statement

FSE is attempt to be one of Vietnam's leading education and training to develop high quality human resources for Special Education as well as a center of scientific research and development of special education, an effective provider of information and services on special education.

2.2. Vision

To enrich the student’s personality, basic professional knowledge and skills as well as to improve their independent thinking and active attendance to lifelong learning to solve practical problems in Special Education in order to improve the competence and position of individuals and the nation.

2.3. Functions and tasks

1. To train educational managers, lecturers, researchers, teachers and staff for the educational sector, level or degree at bachelor, master and doctor.

2. To provide training and retraining programs, and to develop curriculum and materials for different students at various levels.

3. To conduct domestic and international scientific research topics in Special Education.

4. To advise and consult for all levels of educational management on policies, strategies and action plans in Special Education.

5. To educate, train and develop staff, lecturers and to educate political, ideological and moral life for staff, lecturers and learners

6. To disseminate information and exchange of scientific knowledge on Special Education

7. To coordinate in education, training and scientific research in Special Education

2.4. Organizational Structure

• Total number of staff and lecturers: 26, including 23 lecturers, 03 office staff. Female: 23 – Male: 03.
• Qualification degree: 02 Ass.Prof.PhD; 09 PhD, 13 MAs (including 06 doctoral students) – 02 BA.
• Major specialization fields: Psychology, Pedagogy, Educational Assessment, Special/Inclusive Education,…
• Organizational structure: 01 administrative office, 01 special centre and 04 professional sections: (i) Section of Education of Children with Visual Impairment and Learning Disability; (ii) Section of Education of Children with Hearing Impairment and Language Disorder; (iii) Section of Education of Children with Intellectual Disability and Autism Spectrum Disorder; (iv) Section of Special Education Practice.
