IN SPECIAL EDUCATION
4.1. OVERVIEW ABOUT THE CURRICULUM
4.1.1. Training aims
The curriculum framework for doctorate degree in special education aims to provide opportunities for doctoral candidates to enhance their general knowledge, extend in-depth knowledge on their professional themes and other related themes on special education; to be competent in conducting research independently, innovating, improving knowledge and confronting with challenges raising from sciences and technology in special education; and to be able to supervise others in conducting research and undertaking professional activities in special education.
4.2. SUMMARY OF ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS IN THE TRAINING CURRICULUM
4.2.1. For the doctoral candidates having eligible master degrees
Total number of Credits: 136, including:
- PhD theses, overview essays, doctoral dissertations: 46 credits
+ PhD subjects: 27 credits
Required: 12 credits
Optional: 15 credits
+ Advanced foreign language for academic purposes: 03 credits
+ PhD thematic subjects: 12 credits
+ Essay of Literature review: 04 credits
- Scientific research (credits are not granted from this component but it is compulsory in the training program)
- PhD thesis: 90 credits

Note:
(i) Scientific research: The researcher (PhD candidate) writes research proposal, undertakes research activities for the PhD project, organizes and presents at seminars and professional activities in alignment with the division’s requirements, and publishs research results related to the dissertation in professional journals under academic instructions from the supervisory team.
(ii) Title of doctoral dissertations and essay reviews: Registered by PhD student at the recommendation of the instructor and approved by the Head of the Department, the Dean of the Faculty and the chairman of Science and Training of the Faculty.
(ii) Title of the thesis and essay of literature review: Doctorate candidates choose the thesis’s title by discussion with the supervisory team then submit for approval from head of the division, dean of the faculty, and chairman. Thematic subjects and essay of literature review are required to complete in the first year.
