The Faculty of Physics at Hanoi National University of Education (HNUE) was established in 1951, at the same time as the University itself was established. The Faculty is one of the largest at the University, with 60 staff members, including 02 Professors, 16 Associate Professors and 16 Ph.Ds- qualified lecturers. It has four departments: Theoretical Physics, Solid State Physics, General Physics and Didactic Physics.

The Faculty offers programs at the bachelor, master and Ph.D levels in areas that includes theoretical physics, solid state physics and didactic physics. There are currently 120 undergraduate students enrolled in one of the gifted, English or  regular training programs. There are also 100 masters and 10 PhD candidates enrolled in the Faculty. Staffs from the Faculty actively participate in writing text books for high schools, colleges and universities in Vietnam. They also teach special courses for high school teachers and provide training programs for national teams competing in the Asian Physics Olympiad and the International Physics Olympiad.

Faculty staff conducts researches and development projects across a wide range of fields, including: Condensed Matter Physics, Quantum Field Theory, Computational Physics, Multifarious Materials, Semiconductor Thin-film Gas Sensors, Astronomy, Environmental Physics, and Physics Education (including theories of teaching, school experiments, and teaching technologies). Since 2010, faculty staff members have published more than 250 research papers in ISI journals.

The Faculty has strong international connections. It  currently has signed MOUs with following institutions: Ewha Women University in Korea; the University of Notre Dame and the Case Western Reserve University in United States;  Kyoto University in Japan; the National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan; the Katholieke University Leuven in Belgium; the University of Warsaw in Poland; the Koblenz-Landau University and Siegen University in Germany; and Marseille University and the University Joseph Fourier in France.
