The program was attended by Professor Huynh Van Chuong – Director of the Department of Quality Management, and representatives of the leadership of units under the Ministry of Education and Training; representing Hanoi National University of Education were Professor Nguyen Van Minh – President of HNUE, and the members of the Executive Board; representatives from the Departments of Education and Training, universities with specialized and gifted high schools (THPT), as well as participating students’ parents, were also presented.
Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, on behalf of the Minister of Education and Training and the Deputy Minister in charge, Professor Huynh Van Chuong, the Director of the Department of Quality Management, expressed his appreciation and warm welcome to the 190 students who participated in the examination. Prof. Chuong also welcomed the teachers from the Departments of Education and Training, universities having gifted high schools, and the parents who had brought their children to participate in the examination as summoned by the Ministry. Additionally, the Director expressed gratitude to HNUE and the University of Technology (Vietnam National University) for their cooperation and active preparation in providing all the necessary conditions for the examination organization.
Director Huynh Van Chuong stated that the examination is organized to select the right individuals to identify outstanding students who will represent Vietnam in international competitions. Through short-term training courses, the students are equipped with additional knowledge and skills to achieve better results in the international examination. “To be present here today, you have already faced significant intellectual and skill challenges. I hope you will continue to be confident, perform well in the examination, affirm yourselves, and pursue your passion for science. In any situation and with any outcome, I believe that you will always be a source of pride for your families, teachers, your homeland, and the youth of Vietnam,” - the Director shared.

Attending and speaking at the ceremony, Professor Nguyen Van Minh, the President of HNUE, stated: ”As the leading pedagogical institution in the country, with the guidance of the leadership of the Ministry of Education and Training and the trust of the departments, agencies, and functional units, the university has made its best efforts in all preparations for the 2024 National Team Selection Examination for the Regional and International Olympic Competition to ensure a successful, safe, and highly effective event.” With 190 outstanding students participating in the examination, the President advised the students to pay attention to their diet and daily activities to ensure their health and maintain a calm mindset during the examination. He also emphasized that all students deserve to represent the Vietnamese spirit and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with other countries in the region and internationally.

Representing the 190 students participating in the examination, Ta Duc Anh, a student from HNUE High School for Gifted Students, expressed determination: “We promise to strictly adhere to the regulations of the examination, complete the test honestly, and strive to give our best efforts in the upcoming important examination with the global of achieving the best results, bringing honor to our school and not disappointing the expectations of our teachers.”

The examination took place on March 26th, 27th, and 28th, 2024, with 190 candidates from 38 participating units. The subjects included Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Computer Science. These candidates were the highest scorers in the National Excellent Student Selection Examination for the 2023-2024 academic year, with scores ranked from highest to lowest.
This examination was an opportunity for the students to test their abilities once again, reaffirm their achievements, and most importantly, secure their names on the list of the National Olympic team. They will represent the country in the regional and international competitions in 2024.
According to the plan, in 2024, the International Mathematical Olympiad will be held in the United Kingdom, the Asian-Pacific Physics Olympiad in Malaysia, the International Physics Olympiad in Iran, the International Chemistry Olympiad in Saudi Arabia, the International Biology Olympiad in Kazakhstan, and the International Informatics in Egypt.
