Project Launch “Inclusive Use of Artificial Intelligence in Education in Vietnam”.

On December 10, 2024, Hanoi National University of Education hosted the Project Launch “Inclusive Use of Artificial Intelligence in Education in Vietnam”.

Giving the opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hien expressed his thanks to the British Council and the members participating in the project, and gave an overview of the project “Inclusive Use of Artificial Intelligence in Education in Vietnam”. He believes that this is an opportunity for researchers, experts, teachers and students to learn and make the most of AI in the teaching and learning process.

On behalf of the project team members, Dr. Vanessa (Fengqiao) Cui, Birmingham City University, presented in detail the project content, which is expected to be implemented over the next 02 years in 06 schools. The project “Inclusive Use of Artificial Intelligence in Education in Vietnam” is an interdisciplinary project to address the issue of digital transformation across Vietnam, and focuses on developing activities for teachers and students from different regions and for all genders across Vietnam on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools for teaching and learning.

The project involves computer science and education researchers from the UK (Birmingham City University, Nottingham Trent University) and Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, Hanoi National University of Education, Vinh University, VNU University of Education) working with schools and teachers in Vietnam to develop pedagogical activities and resources to test the latest AI technologies.

The project applies three specialized tools: conversational AI, large language models and a multimodal affect recognition system to test with teachers and students. The project focuses on learning experiences in rural and urban areas in Vietnam with the aim of understanding the views of teachers and students from different gender groups from these schools on the use of AI in education. The results of this project will be developed into resources for educators and researchers; and provide information on the directions and recommendations for sustainable development of new technologies in education.
