Webometrics has announced the ranking of universities in the world in July - 2017, in which Hanoi University of Education has reached the third position in the universities of Vietnam. Compared with the results published by Webometrics in January 2017, Hanoi National University of Education has increased from the fifth position to the third position in the country. The goal of Webometrics is "to encourage and promote the posting of information on the internet." The main aim is to support Open Access Initiatives to improve access to information about scientific research and electronically scholarly material, therefore the Rankings do not evaluate the element of design and the number of page views.

After several changes, in January of this year, Webometrics announced a set of 4 criteria for the ranking:
- Presence: The number of sub-sites hosted on the school system is identified by Google;
- The Impact: The number of backlinks from other websites returning to the school's website;
- Openess: The number of citations of scientific works on a Google Scholar data source;
- Excellence: Top 10% of articles published by the University's academics are in scientific journals and listed in the most frequently cited scientific journals in the Scopus category.
According to the rankings published on 7/2017, Hanoi University of Technology ranked 1st (ranked 1,099 in the world). The 2nd is Hanoi National University (ranked 1,507 world). Hanoi National University of Education ranked 3rd in Vietnam and 2,364 in the world, followed by 4th and 5th places as Cantho University and National University of Ho Chi Minh City. Webometrics ranks universities around the world according to the parameters of the institution's website.
