The competition, jointly organized by Vietnam Television and the Ministry of Education and Training, featured contestants from prestigious schools: Nguyen Nguyen Phu (Hanoi National University of Education High School for Gifted Students, Hanoi), Tran Trung Kien (Le Hong Phong High School, Phu Yen), Nguyen Quoc Nhat Minh (Hung Vuong Specialized High School, Gia Lai), and Vo Quang Phu Duc (Quoc Hoc Hue High School for Gifted Students, Thua Thien - Hue). This year's final was considered a close match as all four contestants were excellent and had their own strengths. Their excellence was demonstrated throughout the previous three rounds of competition (weekly, monthly, and quarterly).
Nguyen Nguyen Phu - a 12th-grade student majoring in English from Hanoi National University of Education High School for Gifted Students (HNUE High School for Gifted Students) - was the final contestant to secure a spot in the final round of the 24th Road to Olympia Peak Competition. He was also the only contestant among the four finalists to possess all three laurel wreaths from the weekly, monthly, and quarterly competitions. Notably, this student from HNUE High School for Gifted Students boasts an SAT score that ranks among the top 1% worldwide.
Nguyen Phu impressed in the final round with his confident and calm demeanor, skillfully navigating challenging questions and situations to advance deep into the competition and come close to claiming the laurel wreath, demonstrating the true spirit of an HNUE High School for Gifted Students student.
Throughout the final round, Nguyen Phu displayed remarkable effort. Especially in the "Acceleration" round, he placed his "Star of Hope" on a physics-related question and almost immediately provided the correct answer: "superconductivity." MC Khanh Vy exclaimed, "HNUE High School for Gifted Students is proud of you – that is the correct answer!" Concluding his "Finish" round, Nguyen Phu had 185 points. He then seized the opportunity to answer a question in his opponent's round, utilizing his English proficiency to provide the correct answer, "IUU fishing" (illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing), earning an additional 30 points and raising his total score to 215. In the final results, Nguyen Phu secured the runner-up position with 215 points, just 5 points shy of the championship laurel wreath.
Besides the outstanding performance of the Hanoi student in the final round, the audience showed great interest in HNUE High School for Gifted Students, which has nurtured numerous talents. This marks the second time HNUE High School for Gifted Students has hosted a live broadcast, following the first with student Dao Luu Dung Tri in 2020.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai Huong, Nguyen Phu's homeroom teacher and English teacher since 10th grade, described him as a well-behaved, witty, and well-rounded student: "Phu consistently ranked among the top 3 in English, so I initially encouraged him to join the gifted student team. However, Phu later chose a different path, aiming to earn a scholarship through the 'Road to Olympia Peak' program."
Returning after 4 years, HNUE High School for Gifted Students is once again proud to host the television bridge for the 24th Road to Olympia Peak Competition.
