KAIST, one of South Korea’s leading universities, was founded in 1971 with the goal of advancing the nation’s scientific and technological capabilities. Located in Daejeon, KAIST is renowned for its expertise in science, technology, engineering, and applied sciences. The university not only focuses on student education but also serves as a major research center, with prominent departments and research institutes in fields like computer engineering, materials science, biology and biotechnology, electronics, mechanical engineering, and technology management. In discussions with KAIST representatives, Assoc. Prof. Le Duc Anh, Head of the Postgraduate Training Department, introduced the international cooperation efforts in education, training, and knowledge exchange being implemented in graduate programs. Representing HNUE, Dr. Dinh Minh Hang provided an overview of HNUE’s history and tradition, its position and role within Vietnam’s education system, and the university’s notable annual international cooperation activities with foreign partners. Additionally, Assoc. Prof. Duong Minh Lam, Head of Office for Science & Technology Management, highlighted some ongoing scientific research collaborations at HNUE. HNUE expressed a desire to establish a cooperative relationship with KAIST in both scientific research and student, graduate, and lecturers exchange programs.
On behalf of the KAIST delegation, Prof. Sijong Kwak, Dean of the College of Natural Sciences, expressed his appreciation for the valuable insights shared by HNUE in education, training, and research. Professor Kwak also expressed a desire for further collaboration, particularly in mathematics, chemistry, and physics, and hoped for more specific and practical connections with HNUE. To outline potential areas for collaboration, Prof. Chan-Ho Yang, Head of the Department of Physics; Prof. Ganguk Hwang, Head of the Department of Mathematics; and Prof. Hyunjoon Song, Head of the Department of Chemistry, introduced and proposed various cooperative activities involving scientific research and exchange of students, graduate students, and lecturers between corresponding departments at HNUE.
At the end of the meeting, KAIST representatives engaged in further specific discussions on collaborative activities with HNUE’s Faculties of Mathematics and Informatics, Chemistry, and Physics.
