The Vietnam Student Biology Olympiad is an annual academic competition organized by the Vietnam Biological Sciences Association, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, in collaboration with universities and research institutes across the country.
The competition aims to identify outstanding students in learning and research to train, nurture, and develop young talents in biology for the country. These students are not just participants, but the future of biology. They will be the next generation of resources to participate in teaching at universities domestically and internationally, and highly qualified human resources in specialized research institutes, serving the cause of the country's science and technology development, economy, construction, and defense.

In this year's competition, the Biology Olympic team of Hanoi National University of Education consists of 5 students, led by Assoc. Prof. Tran Thi Thanh Huyen - Vice Dean of the Faculty of Biology, is the head of the delegation, and Dr. Vu Thi Bich Huyen - Lecturer in the Department of Genetics - Biochemistry, is the deputy head.
The Biology Olympiad Team - Hanoi National University of Education
After two days of competition, the candidates were challenged with a general theory exam. In the theoretical part, the candidates had 120 minutes to complete the exam with 100 multiple-choice questions related to 5 fields: cell biology, plant physiology, animal physiology, genetics and evolution, ecology and ethology.
In the practical part, each candidate registered for 1 of 5 fields (not overlapping with other team members), including: cell biology, plant physiology, animal physiology, genetics and genetic engineering, microbiology and microbiological testing, to be completed within 90 minutes.
In addition, the delegation had the opportunity to participate in activities organized by the Organizing Committee: networking, a Gala dinner, cultural performances between delegations, and a city tour to visit the Ajinomoto Bien Hoa factory.
With the encouragement and facilitation of the Hanoi National University of Education Board of Directors, especially the attention of Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Duc Son - President of the university, with the dedication of the candidates in the team and the enthusiastic help of the teachers from the Faculty of Biology at the Closing Ceremony and Award Ceremony, the Hanoi National University of Education team achieved many high achievements in this year's competition, specifically:
Student Le Thi Phuong (70K) and Cao Hoang Tuan (K73C) won the First Prize excellently.
Student Nguyen The Phuong (71 CLC) excellently won the Second Prize.
Student Nguyen Tran Quy Duy (71 CLC) and Pham Minh Kien (K73A1) won the Third Prize excellently.
Student Nguyen Tran Quy Duy (71 CLC) won the Individual Prize for the highest practical score in the Cell - Biochemistry practical exam.
Assoc. Prof. Tran Le Quan - President of the University of Science - Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, and Prof. Le Tran Binh - President of the Vietnam Biology Association, presented the award to the most outstanding team.
This result not only marks the 4th consecutive time the Hanoi National University of Education's student team has held the top position in the Vietnam Student Biology Olympiad but also serves as a testament to the relentless efforts and dedication to improving the quality of teaching and learning by both faculty and students at the Hanoi National University of Education in general, and the Biology Faculty in particular. It further solidifies the prestige and position of the Hanoi National University of Education as a key institution within the higher education system in Vietnam.
Through this competition, students have gained invaluable experiences and memories, further fueling their passion for Biology. Participating in extracurricular activities during the competition, students from the Hanoi National University of Education have left a positive impression on students from other delegations through their artistic talents, dynamism, friendliness, and approachability, thereby spreading a positive image of the Hanoi National University of Education to friends across the nation.
The leadership of the Vietnam Biology Association and the leadership of the hosting institution - the University of Science - Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City - solemnly handed over the flag for organizing the 5th Olympiad in 2025 to the University of Education - Hue University leadership.
